Qualifications/Teaching Experience:
I am Mia Gimenez, an internationally certified music teacher and the Founder and Principle Voice Teacher at the award-winning Gimenez Voice Academy. With over 10 years of teaching experience and 30 years as a professional singer, I have dedicated my career to nurturing singers to discover their full voice across various genres, including musical theatre, contemporary commercial music, and classical repertoire.

My holistic approach emphasizes the development of mind, body, and soul, fostering a supportive and inclusive environment for all my students - from professionals to adolescents and transgender singers. Under my guidance, Gimenez Voice Academy has garnered international recognition. My students have achieved remarkable milestones such as winning international competitions, acceptance at elite performing arts institutions, performing at Carnegie Hall, and securing representation by talent agents and major record labels. They have also made significant strides in their careers, appearing in commercials, films, and releasing music on major streaming platforms.

My professional journey includes significant roles such as Voice Coach at Theatre Cedar Rapids and Youth Theatre Director at Nolte Academy, where I directed fully-staged productions and developed comprehensive theatre arts curricula. My commitment to excellence is further demonstrated through my work as an adjudicator for the Iowa High School Music Association and the Iowa High School Music Theatre Awards, as well as conducting singing workshops at Iowa Conservatory.

An advocate for continuous learning, I hold credentials from New York University (NYU) Tisch in Performing Arts Industry Essentials and Music Industry Essentials. My teaching philosophy centers on practical application, bridging theory with technique, and creating a safe space for students to explore and grow.

I have had the honor to perform with conductors and directors from all over the globe, including Juilliard, Paris National Opera, New York City Opera, and the Metropolitan Opera. I have performed with great American companies including the Lyric Opera of Chicago, Tony® Award-winning TheatreWorks in Silicon Valley (Sweeney Todd), Ray of Light Theatre (Jerry Springer the Opera), and Bay Area Theatre Circle Critics® award-winning Broadway By the Bay (Fantine in Les Misérables).

Discover Your Voice with Gimenez Voice Academy

I believe in the transformative power of music. Inspired by Joseph Campbell's "Follow Your Bliss," I invite you to embark on a journey of self-discovery and artistic expression.

My holistic approach emphasizes developing mind, body, and soul, fostering a supportive, inclusive environment. Under my guidance, students have achieved remarkable milestones: international competition wins, Carnegie Hall debuts, NATS National Finalists, talent agent signings, commercial/film appearances, and music releases. My students excel with a 90% graduation record, entering top performing arts programs in the US, Canada, and the UK.

My teaching philosophy is rooted in meeting you where you are—a unique blend of potential and curiosity. I bridge the gap between theory, technique, artistic expression, and performance art, creating a safe, trust-filled studio space where mistakes become growth opportunities.

With extensive experience as a professional singer, I’ve performed with renowned institutions such as Juilliard, Paris National Opera, New York City Opera, and the Metropolitan Opera. My roles include performances with the Lyric Opera of Chicago, Tony® Award-winning TheatreWorks (Sweeney Todd), Ray of Light Theatre (Jerry Springer: The Opera), and Broadway By the Bay (Fantine in Les Misérables). As an active member of NATS, ANATS, and AEA, I champion innovative and inclusive vocal education.

I specialize in teaching a diverse range of voices, including changing adolescent, transgender, and aging voices. My support extends beyond lessons, actively seeking performance opportunities for students. I am your cheerleader and champion, always encouraging the courageous singer within you.

Contact me today and begin your musical journey. Let's follow our bliss, together.
